Bible Study (Women's) - A Christian Non-Denominational Study Group
The next study for Quail Creek Women's Bible Study will be Chip Ingram's (Living on the Edge) Romans 12 study (r12). We will meet Tuesday's in the Clubhouse Silver Room at 1:00. It's a ten week DVD and discussion series. Study guides are $7.00. We will meet January 18 - March 22.
Romans 12 is the START HERE for the Christian Life. What most Christians sadly misunderstand is that God isn't into religious activities or performance-based Christianity. Instead, Romans 12 reveals to us a relational profile of what it means to be a disciple, as well as a proven pathway to becoming more like Jesus every day.
If you've become stagnant in your spiritual growth, START HERE. If you've become disengaged with your church experience, START HERE. If you are a new believer and unsure how to grow spiritually, START HERE. If you are a Mature Christian and are looking for a pathway to disciple others, START HERE.
Please sign up in the Clubhouse Quail Creek Women's Bible Study folder in the hallway before January 4th or call JoAnne Spencer 207-8679 or Kay Robinson 495-4173. We hope you will join us.
Look forward to the Truth Project (Focus on the Family) Study (12 weeks) in the fall of 2011.

Computer Club Membership Continues to Grow
Quail Creek Computer Club is one of our community's largest clubs, with membership currently over 160 and still growing.
Because the Club's leadership is committed to maintaining current Windows-based computer technology, the Computer Lab's equipment has been kept up to date with new high-definition monitors and Windows 7 computers. In order to provide all the current PC operating systems for our members' use, we offer XP and Vista systems as well.
The Club's vision includes expanding our offerings to include other platforms, such as Apple products. Anyone wanting to help us develop this goal should contact the club's president, Al Miller, at 648-7553, or email at ambiance@cox.net.
Because our members are interested in learning about more than just email, internet browsing and the office applications familiar to most computer users, we also offer our members a wide variety of applications and classes, for beginners as well as advanced users.
For example, you'll find classes in digital imaging processes (editing as well as organizing digital photos) using various applications, from simple to the more complex. You can learn to burn CDs and DVDs; how to use financial applications (such as Quicken), Windows 7, Google Earth, and many others. For the novice computer user, we suggest Beginner Q&A and Computer Basics.
All our classes are conducted by experienced instructors in subjects from computer basics, file management, organizing your photos, computer security, data backup, and other essential processes, to classes specifically designed for the experienced user.
Wi-fi is available in the Lab, so you may bring your laptop and use your own computer and applications while attending classes. The lab is open several days a month to make our systems available for all to use.

We usually have four events every year. This year we had a Pig Roast in April and a Lobster Fest in November. Both at a local restaurant. Also, we had a "Sunday Supper" last winter and "Dog Days of Summer BBQ" events at member's homes. This is a perfect opportunity to meet other east coasters and reminisce.

Finance Committee
Quail Creek Finance Committee
Your Finance Committee consists of eight of your fellow homeowners who serve as an advisory committee to the POA Board. We meet at 1 PM on the last Monday of each month. The POA Board president and the Robson comptroller for HOA affairs are ex-officio members. The committee:
Prepares a proposed annual Operating Budget, provides an information presentation on the budget to the community, and submits the budget to the Board for approval. Monitors monthly financial statements for adherence to the approved Operating Budget. Reviews the risk management program (insurance) of the QCPOA and submits recommendations to the Board. Conduct studies of QCPOA operations and submits recommendations for changes to the Board.
Copies of committee minutes and the annual budget are provided on the POA website in the Finance Committee section of the Board Room tab for those who are interested. Our meetings are open to the public.
We are currently seeking a qualified volunteer for our committee. Volunteers should complete a volunteer form. Forms are available from the concierge or the POA website. Contact Gene for more information (email: erb8@cox.net; phone: 520 393 0096).

Food and Beverage Committee
Your Quail Creek Food & Beverage Committee was formed approximately 5 years ago to assist in the guarantee that patrons of the Grill, Madera Clubhouse, and any food and beverage operation have the best possible dining experience. The committee is comprised of 7 to 9 full-time POA members who have a great interest in food. Many even have extensive careers in the food industry. Our Charter details several key functions of the committee which are designed to assist the director with operations and special activities. Our committee periodically reviews menus and services of the facilities, and reports on ways and means of possible enhancement. The committee helps staff special events, i.e., Discover Quail Creek, the Pecan Festival, and Taste of the Valley/Business Expo, just to name a few. While the committee strictly serves in an advisory capacity, we do appoint sub-committees charged with the responsibility of studying a specific issue and reporting its findings to the committee and management. One recent example was the Food & Beverage Survey sent out last year. We received almost 600 responses from the POA! One of our most important functions is maintaining a liaison between the POA, the Director of Food & Beverage Operations, and the POA Board. The committee and management meet monthly in an executive session and offer quarterly open meetings so POA members can play an active part, offering suggestions and comments directly to the committee and management. The committee members are asked to serve a 3-year term. Each October and November the committee completes its process in interviewing interested POA members to fill positions of those completing their 3-year tenure. If you have an interest in helping insure that Food & Beverage Operations continue with our current high standards, please submit an application electronically through our Quail Creek website e-forms, or a written form which can be provided at the concierge's desk at the Clubhouse. If you have further questions about the committee, please contact me at your convenience.

Gourmet Dining Club
Club members host monthly dinners for 6-8 guests at their homes from October through March. The hosts plan a meal around the theme for the month, select recipes and send them to the guests who are scheduled to be at their dinner. On the evening of the dinner, guests arrive with their prepared dishes. Everyone "wines and dines", enjoys a new taste adventure and the camaraderie of new friends.
All members host during the 5 dinner season, and costs are shared.
A season finale dinner for all members is held in April.
Membership for the 2011-12 season will close in September.

Green Committee Functions
Do you like to play golf here at Quail Creek and want to become involved in how the golf course operates? Here is how the Green Committee operates here.
The Green Committee serves as the focal point for the golfing community's issues at Quail Creek and has representation from all the major golf associations, men's 18 holes, men's nine hole Duffers, ladies' 18 holes and ladies' 9 holes. There are also five At-Large members who serve staggered three year terms beginning on January 1 each year. These five members are residents, male or female, who have expressed an interest in joining the Green committee, have filled in the volunteer form, have come for an interview with the committee and then if selected by the Green Committee are finally approved by the POA Board. Also serving on the committee are reps from the Finance Committee, POA Board rep, Head Professional, Golf Course Superintendent and a rep from corporate Robson. The committee meets monthly on the first Monday at 1:30 pm in the Gold room where all meetings are open to the residents. At the end of the formal agenda each month, visitors can ask questions about the golf course that have been bothering them. We do have the Golf Comment Cards in the Pro Shop to express an opinion or if you wish to make a suggestion or complaint.
There are additional subcommittees that operate under the umbrella of the Green Committee.
First of these is the Pricing Committee, a group that meets regularly during the year and often in the late summer to review income and expenditures at our golf course to see if the fee structure needs to be modified for the following year. This committee upon reaching its conclusions makes their recommendations to the Green Committee who then upon approval recommend to the POA Board the pricing structure ie. green fees, annual dues, outside green fees and tournaments, play passes and range card costs. Jack Galanti heads up this committee in 2011. He is always interested in adding new people who represent different segments of the community joining his committee.
Secondly, the Course Committee, headed up by Ed McCoy works closely with the golf superintendent meeting at least monthly and adjusting the special projects that have been established for each of the three nines. The head golf professional is also part of this committee. This committee is deeply involved with the golf course and its operation. As a sub set of the Course Committee is the Adopt-A-Hole army of over 200 residents who regularly fill divots and repair ball marks on the hole assigned to them. Marc Renspurger heads up the group and is always looking for new volunteers to help in maintaining the quality of our golf course.
Thirdly, the Sales and Marketing Committee headed up by Phil Perzan, looks at ways to increase revenues at Quail Creek by promoting nonresident membership, outside tournaments and providing marketing information about golf at Quail Creek to new and prospective residents. Phil also is looking for new people to join his committee.
Golf is a major activity at Quail Creek accounting for close to 1/3 of the POA budget each year and must pay its way. We always welcome input from our residents and can only make progress in providing our residents with a superior facility by having strong input from residents willing to commit to time to make us better in every way.

Ladies (18-hole) Golf Association (QCLGA)
Come join in the fun! The QCLGA's objective is to promote good fellowship and sportsmanship among its members and to encourage active participation in playing golf in accordance with USGA Rules and Quail Creek Local Rules.
Normally, we play 18 holes of golf on Thursdays in a variety of formats designed to enhance the enjoyment of the game as well as provide the opportunity for our members to get to know one another while participating in friendly competition.
Our members span a wide range of handicaps, so you need not be a "low-handicapper" to enjoy the game of golf as a member of the QCLGA.

Library at Madera Clubhouse
There are approximately 1,600 books on the shelves in the Clubhouse at any given time. Just sign them out, giving author, title of the book, and date checked out. There are no due dates, no fines, no attendants – when you're finished, just return the books to the cabinet below the sign-out sheet.
There is a good collection of popular hardcover fiction on the open shelves. Additionally, there are many more fiction paperbacks shelved behind the cabinet doors. Books are arranged alphabetically by author and most are less than ten years old.
Also, the Library has a good collection of recent non-fiction, large print editions, audio CDs and jigsaw puzzles located separately. To locate various sections, see the diagram on the wall next to the sign-out register.
Not on line at home? You are welcome to use the library tables and connect into the Clubhouse wi-fi.
Over thirty volunteers perform the daily shelving and processing of donations.
The Library has some limited Homeowner's Association funds to buy some large print and audio books, but basically all of our books are donated by members of our community. Book donations not used in our library are periodically contributed to the Tucson VA Hospital or the Animal League of Green Valley.
The Library has had steady increases in monthly circulation, currently averaging about 600 books per month. The increased circulation necessitates a corresponding increase in donations to keep our collection current. Please consider donating to our library when you finish your next book.

Performing Arts Guild - You Don't Have to be a Performer to Enjoy!
Since its beginnings in 2003, the Quail Creek Performing Arts Guild's goal has been to present variety, musical, drama and comedy productions for the enjoyment of Quail Creek residents and their guests. And while we certainly want to produce shows for the pleasure of our residents, there's nothing that says PAG members themselves can't have a lot of fun! And indeed we do!!!
It takes all kinds of aptitudes and skills to produce a show -- not just singing, dancing, acting, and directing. We also need people working behind the scenes who are willing to help with costume design, set decoration, makeup, publicity, choreography, ticket sales, and script writing, as well as sound and lighting technicians. It's a delightful combination of work and play!
We meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 3:00 p.m. in the Silver Room at the Club House. Dues are only $10 per year, and membership forms are available at our meetings as well as at our website, http://quailcreekpag.com/join.html.
If you have not yet taken in one of our productions, you will have a chance to see (or participate in) one soon. Neil Simon's hilarious comedy, "Plaza Suite," will be presented March 31st to April 2nd, 2011.
This popular play has been performed many times to rave reviews since it opened in 1968. One reviewer described it this way: "A bubbly confection, 'Plaza Suite' is a laugh riot … Overflowing with gags, jokes, one-liners and laughable human frailties, … Neil Simon's comedy is a sparkling gem." (Chicago's SouthTown Star). Plan to attend; you'll be glad you did!
For more information on our club, visit us online at http://quailcreekpag.com/index.html. Be sure to take a look at the photos there for evidence of how much fun we have. Then plan to join us soon!

Photography Club
The Photography Club of Quail Creek was formed in 2009. It is composed of Quail Creek residents who want to have fun with photography at all levels from beginners to advanced photographers. We meet to learn more about photography and to share our knowledge and enthusiasm with one another. If you'd like to have more fun with photography, or just learn more about how to better operate your camera, please come and join us!
Meetings: Are held on the second Monday of most months at 7:00PM in the Gold Room of the Madera Club House. Members are encouraged to display their latest photos and bring their cameras to learn more about how to use them.
Programs: Generally, a guest presenter gives an interesting and informative program on a wide range of photographic topics.
Field Trips: "Photo shoot" field trips to unique and interesting locations are planned for members throughout the year.
Exhibitions: Members of the Club may exhibit their work at the Quail Creek Arts and Crafts Fair presented in November and at the Discover Quail Creek event in March. Other exhibition opportunities may occur.
Contests: Members are presented with a monthly contest topic to challenge their skills. The Photo of the Month contest winners have their entry printed and exhibited at the Madera Club House.
Photography is a wonderful hobby to have in this beautiful and interesting place.

Sports Committee and the Sports Center
The role of the Sports Committee is to promote fitness activities in Quail Creek and to suggest policy changes and improvements for the Sports Center facilities. We are again helping to coordinate the Quail Creek Run, which will be on Feb. 26, 2011. The Run this year will have better and bigger raffle prizes, and proceeds will again go to the Animal League of Green Valley and the Green Valley Community Food Bank. We conducted our second Fitness Challenge last summer, which was very successful with over 90 participants. Participants recorded "map miles" based on the approximate number of calories burned during their exercise. Many types of activities could be recorded, including group exercise classes; outside walking, running, or cycling; tennis; use of aerobic machines in the Fitness Center; and weight lifting. Participants "travelled" from Quail Creek to Four Corners, Utah. The Sports Committee also offered a Fun and Fit Expo as part of Wellness Week.
The Sports Committee is excited about the construction of the expanded Sports Center. We have formed several subcommittees and are putting together recommendations to present to the POA Board. Topics that will be included in the recommendations are the lay-out and use of the interior space, schedules and staffing, locking and control systems, Fitness Center policies, management of the number and types of exercise programs supported by the Center, how class scheduling is to be handled and managed, fee structure for courses, and vetting process for new certified instructors.
Look under Sports Center on the POA website to see a description of the services that are presently offered in the Sports Center. You can take exercise classes including Cardio Sculpt, Low Impact Aerobics, Dancin' with Nancy, Tai Chi, Yoga for Men, Aqua Fit, and Step Challenge. The Sports Center includes a workout room with elliptical machines, treadmills, recumbent bikes, upright bikes, resistance machines, and free weights. It is staffed during peak hours, which are listed on the website, and is available with key entry at other times. Guests over 18 may use the workout room, but EVERYONE needs to sign a waiver, which can be obtained from the Sports Center staff. There are two swimming pools, a leisure pool and a lap pool, and a hot tub. Children under 18 are allowed only in the leisure pool during specific hours (11 AM -1 PM and 4:30-6:30 PM). There are also bocce ball courts. You can bring your own balls or they can be checked out from the Sports Center staff. Tennis courts are managed by the Tennis Club.
If you have suggestions to bring to the Sports Committee or if you would like to join the committee, please e-mail Mark Mandel, mark_mandel109@hotmail.com, Chair of the Committee. Visit our website (POA website, Amenities, Sports Center) to see more about Sports Center facilities and activities.

Unit Representative Committee
The Unit Representative Committee was established 4 years ago as an advisory group to the Quail Creek POA Board. The group meets monthly the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 3:00 PM. Our mission is to provide a method for QC residents and neighborhoods to bring questions and problems to the proper staff, departments or POA Board. We work to give residents feedback and follow up information. A process is set up for reporting concerns through Facilities and Grounds staff, ALC, Patrol and Golf Course staff. Residents are encouraged to contact their Unit Rep if they see problems or have concerns within their units. Many of your Unit Reps have also assisted in organizing social events in their Units. During this past year most of our units have had large parties and several Units have formed addition activities for social networking within their neighborhoods, such as football parties, biking, bridge, poker and golf. Recently the Unit Reps have responded to a need for sharing current information with residents, by recording notes from the weekly Q & A sessions with the POA Board on Friday mornings. These are sent out to residents on the week-end, and have received many positive compliments from those who might not be able to attend in person, but still want updated information. To learn more or find who your unit rep is, go to the QC website, click on the Board Room icon, and then select the Unit Rep Committee area. Here you can find a listing of all unit reps, minutes, Q & A reports and our charter.
